Green Design Competition 2010

Incheon Metropolitan City, KOREA, together with designboom promotes an international design competition. Participation is open to applicants from every country in the world, to professionals, students, and design-enthusiasts. free of charge registration required.

01 - the subject of the international competition is
green heart iida 2010 awaits fresh and new design proposals to be made by designers with green hearts, being aware of the environment. green design is a joyful way to give sustainable change to the daily life in the city. design suggesting a future for coexistence of human and nature would start from the heart of a designer filled with passion for conserving the environment. we welcome active participation of competent world designers to iida 2010 with the goal of opening up possibilities for sustainable life through design.

iida 2010 seeks for entries in the following three categories:

1. - green design for humans
- life style design which help realize ways to consider the environment in daily life
- daily goods, home appliances, lighting, furniture, stationery, home devices, car, packaging, etc.

2. - green design for the city
- innovative and effective public design which suggests the possibility of an eco-friendly city
- architecture, interior design, road, public area, park, urban planning, urban infrastructure, etc.

3. - green design for communication
- design taking lead in social communication for the diffusion of green design and green life style
- poster, video, advertisement, illustration, campaign, software, mass media, networking, etc.

02 – awards
the total amount of cash prize at iida 2010 is USD 43,000.
the prize and awards will be conferred in the name of the mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City.
- iida 2010 1st award : 1 design work, USD 10,000 / Invitation expense USD 3,000
- iida 2010 2nd award : 2 design works, each USD 3,000 / Invitation expense each USD 3,000
- iida 2010 3rd award : 3 design works, each USD 2,000 / Invitation expense each USD 3,000
- iida 2010 netizen’s choice awards: 3 design works, each USD 500
- iida 2010 people's choice awards: 3 design works, each USD 500

the iida 2010 awards ceremony and opening of the exhibition will be held on the 18th of november 2010, at the songdo convensia, Incheon Metropolitan City, Korea. the winners will exhibit their works from the 18th to the 21st of november at the venue of Incheon International Design Fair, a worldly festival of design which takes place at songdo convensia. the winners are invited to the 2010 Incheon International Design Fair and to participate in the awards ceremony. they will have opportunities to present their award winning works to the companies based in incheon and socialize with them for 2 days during the event period.

and as always… designboom will publish an exhaustive results report.

03 – the jury is composed of
the shortlisted entries for the iida 2010 will be examined by a judging committee composed
of korean/foreign specialists of related fields and important figures of design. the evaluation standards are established by the judging committee. the member of the judging committee will be announced later.

04 - design criteria
projects should not be currently in production, published or exhibited projects are not accepted.
the designs may not be marked with any form of identification. it is important that you keep your design(s) confidential until the results of the competition are published.

the following designs may not be submitted to iida 2010. if any award winning submissions are found to fall under any of the following categories later, the award will be cancelled and the prize money withdrawn. designs that:
- are already made public in korea or elsewhere
- found in infringement of an intellectual property right of others.
- fail to meet the requirements set forth in this guideline

the jury will award designs and concepts which are innovative in terms of their formal / technological aspects as well as their social relevance. please don't send in vague concepts, but go a step further. it's not the idea which is the art, it's more the way somebody handles the idea that makes art.

05 – registration deadline
the application will be accepted from may 1st to august 25th, 2010 17:00 GMT.

06 - registration
registrations are open now, please fill in the form.
teams register with one name only
- when submitting works you should add all team member’s names.
* please note number of members in a team is limited to maximum 4 members.

07 - submit your entry / entries
whether you're an individual or group, you can submit a maximum of two entries for each category. for every entry you will be requested to supply:

1. up to 3 files for uploading to our server
(images or a composition of more images) of your project. to upload your images please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 150 kb each file, RGB color mode.
max image size width: 600 pixels.
max image size height: 800 pixels.

the original high-resolution image(s)
will be requested if your work is shortlisted.

for video works you can submit a video clip
size 640 x 480; max 10MB
(acceptable formats: flv or swf files)
when creating a video clip, make sure the file is a video or flash file data supported by
windows media player ver.9.0, flash player, quick time player or can be automatically played.

2. explanation of ideas
a brief description of your work.
(english text only, explanation is expected to be very concise)

3. you will be requested to accept the competition guidelines competition guidelines: projects participating to the competition, must be original works. projects must be free from copyrights and any kind of obligation. the design shall not in any way infringe
any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, trade names, or other proprietary rights of publicity or privacy. only entries with a declaration of authorship are accepted!
(when submitting your design you will be asked to tick a box of declaration)

08 – deadline for submission of entries
works can be submitted through august 25th, 2010 17:00 GMT.

09 – results announcement
final results will be announced on september 2010.

10 - copyright
any moral and paternity right regarding the project sent in for application is designer’s property.

however by submitting a design in the competition, the participant agrees to provide Incheon Metropolitan city with the right of first refusal to the exclusive use of
the design. this option is valid until the 3st of December 2010. in the event that Incheon Metropolitan city exercises the option to use the rights for production on an exclusive basis and sine die (without time limitations) , Incheon Metropolitan city undertakes to pay a one-off fee to the designer. and, by participating in the competition, all participants authorise designboom
DESIGNFLUX and Incheon Metropolitan city to publish and exhibit all the designs
(including project data submitted) – waiving compensation – at exhibitions and events
and/or to use them in any publications that the organisers may deem suitable and/or necessary.

11 -information on the Incheon International Design Award (iida)
iida 2010 is an international design competition hosted by Incheon Metropolitan City and organized by Incheon Business Agency. iida has the vision of incheon as an environment- friendly city of the future. this vision has led us to invite designers with diverse imagination
from all over the world under the theme of ‘green heart.’
